Having a job is important in one’s life. A job provides
us with the money necessary to earn a living. Working and bringing in a steady
paycheck provides the ability to feed one’s family, as well as provide housing,
clothing, and other day-to-day necessities. Having a job provides the money to
work toward an education, and having an education allows an individual to take
better care of their family and allows the “Pursuit of Happiness” (“The Declaration of Independence”
ushistory.org/declaration/document. 16 June 2011) in following the American
Dream.
Having a good education puts someone in a position to get a better job. A
person with a high school diploma may only be considered for a lower paying
job, like working at McDonalds or any fast food restaurant. However, someone
with a higher education may be considered for a better position with a higher
salary and more benefits. With a professional job it is possible to make
advancements in lifestyle and standard of living. This also makes tuition for
additional courses more affordable. Having a degree and a job often opens the
opportunity to earn advanced degrees. Having a steady income enables the worker
to feel like a valuable part of the household. Probably the most important
aspect of working and having money is the paramount importance of feeding one’s
family. Having good and healthy meals can help the family to remain healthy.
Working may also provide the opportunity for upward movement to home ownership.
By saving a little bit from each paycheck, it is possible to get enough money
for a down payment on a house. This is one of the most important ways to change
someone’s lifestyle.
When a person has a steady job, money
starts coming in and action takes place, like planning to purchase the basics
needed and extend the budget to buy better quality items for the house. These
might include furniture, new clothes and a car if needed. It also enables one
to help pay bills, reduce household debt and plan for the future. Often it is
fun to go shopping at several stores, and spend money along the way. For this
reason, and others it is necessary for everyone to have a job. A job also makes
for a comfortable lifestyle which is essential in pursuing happiness. According
to the article: Is Happiness Actually
Important? “On average happy people are more successful than unhappy people
at both work and love. They get better performance reviews, have more
prestigious jobs, and earn higher salaries”. (Christine Carter) It is obvious that
happiness is related to success. When one has a job, things work good in the
household kids are happy because they can get what they ask for, like toys,
going out to playgrounds, buying gifts. They enjoy having a birthday party
organized or any kind of activities created for the children, such as sports or
music lessons. Additionally, working allows the family to consider other
activities, such as planning to go on vacation or attend a family reunion,
which might also include travel.
Happiness starts with a good
conversation in the house, reduces any emotional stress and increases chances
for success. Therefore, having a job not only helps people to pursue happiness
but also builds positive family relationships by removing financial worries and
stress from the family. According
to Charles D. Kerns, PHD, MBA
. happiness comes from work experiences that yield positive emotions, positive
thoughts, and/or positive images in people. Positive emotions in particular
have the capacity to “build and broaden” people’s positive response repertoire. People who approach tasks with positivity have been found
to be more productive, creative and resilient.
Earning a living is one of the most
important things in society. Having a job gives a person the financial ability
to provide for their family, manage household expenses and consider extras like
vacations or travel. It also makes it possible to consider home ownership, which
is a main part of the American Dream. And finally, the person with a good job
possesses self-confidence and well-being by contributing to the household and
society, and this brings happiness.
